Purpose:

Given the serious impact of family violence on health and wellbeing, primary care services are often the first place people will seek care. However, often primary care professionals can be unsure of what to do, or how to help. To prevent harmful responses, understanding what matters to whānau and families when seeking care is critical. This project advances a programme of research within the Bay of Plenty that strengthens the primary care response to family violence. We generate relationships between health professionals, whānau and families to sensitise and contextualise the experience of accessing care for health professionals and raise whānau and family voices within healthcare service delivery. We anticipate that as understanding grows, healthcare service provision will change to better support the health and wellbeing of whānau and families seeking care.
