Taku Ahi Whitawhita: Flourishing Mindsets
In collaboration with Dr Anna Rolleston and Stu McDonald
With support from Pūtahi Manawa Centre of Research Excellence, the Heart Foundation NZ
Community Partners: The Ahuipoutu Collective and Poutiri Wellness
Duration: 2025 - 2026
Purpose:
Whānau who have developed a "flourishing mindset" will lead to better engagement with health services, increased adherence to treatment plans, and improved health outcomes. By fostering this mindset, we aim to empower individuals and communities to actively participate in their health journeys, recognising and utilising their inherent strengths and resources. This approach shifts the focus from addressing deficits to building on existing capacities, aligning health interventions with the values, aspirations, and cultural contexts of Māori communities. We believe that by nurturing a flourishing mindset, we can overcome barriers to engagement and create more effective, culturally responsive health services that contribute to the overall goal of achieving toiora for Māori.
