Gait and mobility in older Māori -
Part of Staying Upright in Residential Care Study
In Collaboration with: Professor Ngaire Kerse MNZM
With support from the University of Auckland and The Health Research Council of NZ
Duration: 2018 - 2022
A study about staying strong and upright in older age.
Purpose:
Older people probably walk a lot less than younger people. Some will have memory problems which makes walking harder. This study is very interested in how Māori people walk, and how the style and amount of walking changes over time. Some styles of walking mean the risk of falls is higher. We would like to see how the way older persons walk is related to falls.
