Carey practised as a lawyer specialising in Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Māori legal matters before expanding her career into business management, community research and governance roles within Māori and community organisations across Aotearoa. In 2019, Carey established Āio Consulting Ltd to pursue her passion for collaborating with Māori, indigenous and not-for-profit communities, focusing on driving positive change, fostering innovation and delivering meaningful and sustainable results that uplift the collective wellbeing of our people.

Carey uses her diverse expertise to effectively bridge legal frameworks with practical, innovative and sustainable health and wellbeing outcomes for the communities that Manawaora partners with.
